For 140 years, Bradley Pulverizer has been a trusted partner serving the minerals industry through manufacturing and process innovations. From our earliest days in fertilizer production to today’s advanced milling and process technologies, Bradley Pulverizer has remained committed to providing practical solutions to advance the needs of milling, classifying, and acidulation customers.

Our Story Begins

In the late 1800s, William Lambert Bradley’s work in fertilizer manufacturing helped establish the foundation for what would become Bradley Pulverizer. Early innovations, including one of the first single superphosphate (SSP) products manufactured in the United States, led to the creation of Bradley Pulverizer and the introduction of the Griffin Mill, a technology that quickly became an industry standard for fertilizer and cement producers.

Mill Technology Innovations

In the early 20th century, the invention of the Three-Roll Mill and later the Hercules Mill enabled customers to process materials more efficiently while increasing production capacity. By relocating manufacturing to Allentown, Pennsylvania, Bradley expanded its engineering capabilities while establishing sales and engineering offices throughout Europe, laying out the foundation for a truly global business.

Innovation isn’t confined to equipment alone. Bradley continually refines its manufacturing processes, creating solutions that improve productivity, reduce energy consumption, and deliver long-term value for customers.

Introduction of the Broadfield Process

Bradley Pulverizer expanded dramatically during the mid-20th century by introducing advanced airswept milling technology that transformed phosphate rock grinding. In the 1930s, the development of Broadfield Process, now the global standard for continuous single superphosphate (SSP) manufacture, provided the opportunity to sell mills alongside dens. Together, these innovations enabled fertilizer plants to be designed and built across New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, India, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and many other regions.

Over the decades, Bradley continued to push boundaries in the fertilizer industry. From phosphoric acid plants and high-capacity BM30 mills to Broadfield mixer technology for Diammonium Phosphate production, Belt Den technology, and fully automated Broadfield systems, each innovation built upon the last.

Advances in Classification

As Bradley’s pendulum roller mills evolved, so too did the air classification technology that helped define the finished product. From early static separators to dynamic classifiers, Bradley continually refined its approach to achieve finer, more consistent particle sizes. That experience eventually extended beyond the mill, leading to stand-alone classifiers and the range of integrated and independent classification solutions Bradley offers today.

Building for the Future

Over a century of leadership from the Bradley family, followed by two generations of the Fronheiser family, has led to the latest chapter of Bradley’s story.  In 2020, new ownership under Curtis Snyder, has brought fresh investment while preserving the engineering expertise and customer focus that have defined the company for generations.

Today, the opening of our new Sittingbourne, Kent UK facility and expanding licensing partnerships allow Bradley Pulverizer to better serve customers around the world.
